Choose How to Create Shape

Darts, curved seams, gathers, pleats, and panels create different effects. Their placement influences both fit and appearance. Review how the chosen method works with the fabric and whether it supports the intended silhouette without unwanted bulk or tension.

Account for Material Behavior

A fluid fabric and a crisp fabric can produce different results from similar shapes. Stretch, recovery, thickness, and transparency affect ease and construction. Confirm the intended fabric before finalizing the pattern, and assess substitutions rather than assuming they will behave identically.

Review the Garment in a Fitting

Check balance, shoulder and neckline placement, bust and waist shaping, hip room, and movement where relevant. Record what should change and distinguish a design preference from a fit correction. Update the pattern so the next sample reflects the agreed decisions.

Prepare the Pattern for Its Next Use

A one-off custom garment and the base for a graded collection have different handoff needs. Confirm pattern format, sample approval, and the intended size range before moving to production preparation.
